The Post About Weight-Loss

Oh boy...
Here I am, doing something I always said I'd never do.
Get accountable to you people who read my blog.
Accountable about what?
Dun dun dun...

Here's the thing about weight:
there's too much of it.
On me.

Body hasn't quite been the same since I began having babies.
Beck and Evie came in rapid succession so I barely had the time to come back down to my normal weight between them.
I got to a good, comfortable place about one year after Evie was born but a medication I was on snatched that good footing right out from under me and I put on 15 lbs in a blindingly fast amount of time.
I kept that on for the years in between Evie and Britt, though I had gone off the medication.
And then there was Britt.
That pregnancy wracked my body.
I gained close to 60 lbs.
B I G.

Gloriously, I've taken off those pregnancy pounds and I'm back to hovering in this uncomfortable space between 15 - 20 lbs over my goal weight.
Here's what I can promise you:
My goal weight is not unhealthy.
So (as there seems to be in any weight-loss venture) I'm not interested in hearing the opinions of the nay-sayers {enablers} that say, "You don't need to lose weight. It won't be healthy."
Take your plushy, fat-person comments to another blog.

I have lots of reasons for wanting to lose this last bit of weight.
I'm not going to list them here because they're probably the same reasons you have had at one time or another for losing a chunk of weight.

I'm not going to disclose my weight here.
No ma'am.
That is very fact this whole thing is unFrench.
French women don't talk about's a secret thing they manage on their own.

And, while I'm not French, I like to pretend I am from time to time...
which is what got me in this predicament in the first place.
Eating too many croissants.
Croissants = French.
The amount I ate = Very, very American.
Not a good combo.

So...on to the weight loss.
I want to lose 2 lbs a week.
(This is healthy. To the naysayers: Be quiet.)
And I want to lose 20 pounds.
That gives me a ten-week period of hard work and then the lovely state of maintenance.
Oh, how I love maintenance.

Giving me the name for this set of weight-loss posts:
20 in 10.
Isn't that pure genius?

I'll post a bit more about what I'm going to do to lose the unsightly 20 in future posts.
But first I wanted to extend and invitation:
Do you wish to join me?
You don't have to aim to lose 20, but you can set out on a 10-week push with me with the goal of giving your body a little spring cleaning.

(There will be weekly weigh-ins {mandatory} and the opportunity to share encouragement with one another.)

I..... LOVE..... YOUR..... BLOG!!! I wish I had been reading sooner!

I'm joining you on this mission sweets! I've put on about 10 lbs (from the 48 I lost over the last year) due to stress in the last couple of months. I need to lose those 10 plus the additional 15 I wanted to lose before that.
I should be joining the gym again by Monday (finances permitting).

I for one am not a 'naysayer'... you do what you have to do for yourself and I'm here to back you up on that. I scratch your's and you scratch mine :))
I'm not going to wish you best of luck cuz it's not needed. YOU WILL DO IT!! WE WILL DO IT!!

YES! That is exactly the amount I'm looking to lose.

I was in a lovely state where I ate well, exercised and felt great. Then I got mono, got engaged, planned a wedding, got married and watched life run me over. Several times. And now none of my jeans fit. Ugh.

haha, awesome! I have been trying to lose the same last pregnancy 10 for, oh close to a year now. We are going to Mexico in a month so I am going to do 10 in 30 along with you!

I can't join in the 20 in 10 just yet but I love the idea and plan to follow you and your followers along the way! I can't wait to hear about the different ways you plan to meet your goal. And for the record- you do look great but I completely understand your reasons for wanting to lose the 20 pounds. Good luck, ladies!

Dude I am with you Ash. Last night was the first night in FOREVER that I didn't eat after 7:30pm. I was up in my bed around 11pm, tummy screaming, but I did NOT get up. What's my motivation? I'm going to Beverly Hills for work March 30-April1 (doing our first trunk show at Neiman Marcus), and I will NOT be fat and pale in LA. I will not. So I'm hoping to do 10 in 5. lol =)

Well, it is 9am and I'm eating a piece of tiramisu, so count me in! It's been hard for me to get motivated and this just might be the thing I need.

Oh man... I have had a weight loss post ready to go for a few weeks now. I just keep changing my mind about posting it. I am DESPERATE to lose the last 10lbs of baby weight and an extra 10lbs after that. I am just torn about the whole breastfeeding issues I seem to have. I will join you long as I keep up my supply. Any advice on that?

I also LOVE your blog! I too have 20 lbs I want to shed. I've done the whole Jillian Michaels thing, and Bob Harper thing. I think what I need is the support. It's so hard when you have a husband who can eat WHATEVER he wants and does NOT gain a pound. Ugh.

Not that you're asking... Haha, but if you want a tip... :) I found I *loved* running last summer, and it took off my post-Park baby weight. Loved me the Couch 2 5K program and even successfully ran 2 5Ks thereafter! Amazing for this "I hate running!" person. I seriously seriously loved it, and if you have a smartphone, there are some great apps out there to keep you motivated. I know you have Ira, but running could be one extra piece of weaponry in your arsenal!

Ah, this is one of my goals for the year. I need to loose about 10 lbs. of left over baby weight. I lost the first 20lbs. easy breast feeding but once I stopped when I went back to work that extra 10 just stayed with me, like a best friend! :)

I'd like to say ba bye to that friend!

confession: I posted about weight loss at the end of January...totally fell off the wagon.

So...I will climb back on my wagon and see what comes of it.

Glad to know I am not the only one denying herself delicious things. It is not easy to do alone.

Oh, and my blog a month ago inspired one of my friend so much, she lost 19 lbs. dang. wish I had inspired myself so much. ha!

I do think that you're being a little hard on yourself considering your baby is just now reaching the one year mark. That being said, if you want to quit being French for a little bit, I have a secret arsenal of skinny Asian recipes and ingredients that I would be happy to share. (And that would be read skinny Asianrecipes, not SkinnyAsian recipes.)

I've never commented before, but this is a great post to start commenting. (by the way, we don't really know each other, but I recognize you and your husband because I am a fellow NCU alum). :) Anyway, I am joining the weight loss bandwagon too. I've been using to count calories. So far, it's been helping me. I'm looking forward to support from other people on the post-baby weight loss quest! :) Oh, and I love your blog!

I am right there with you Ashley! I have about twice as much to lose, but losing the first half in 10 weeks sounds great. I will do my part by bringing healthy snacks to Bible study on Fridays!

Count me in! I've already refreshed my gym membership and have gone vegetarian ( we're on week two!)
I need 15 to reach my sparkly dream goal, the weight I was before my first child. Or 5 pounds of fat while adding a nice 5 pounds of muscle, I'd take that, too...

I gained at least 15 pounds or more since starting nursing school. I recently started going to the gym and doing weight watchers on my own.
I hope you are successful in your goal to lose those 20 pounds. I know it can make a big difference in how you feel about yourself.

I'll join you in this venture. I could deal with 20 in 10. I definitely need to lose it! I had a physical done recently for work and I've lost some weight, but if I could lose 20 more pounds, then I'd be at the weight my driver's license records me at (a weight I haven't been since my freshman year of high school, might I add). I need accountability!

Yep, me, count me in, too!!! I have about 10-15 lbs of baby weight to lose and as you know, my "baby" is 4. :O) I just started working with a trainer so I'm excited... this is coming at a great time. And I need accountability...

You can do it! I started counting calories (first time ever) and used and it has TOTALLY helped me do it. [There's a huge food database and you can find almost anything on there. AND- (best part) you can type in your own recipes and it figures out the calories for you. You log in your exercise and it keeps track of your weight loss]. I started in December and am 19 lbs down. And I really, really, really like to eat. :)

All I can say is...


I hate people that say, "You don't need to loose weight" cause most of us aren't narcissistic pre-madonnas - we are realistic and we just want to wear our "skinny jeans" and not sigh when we see a photograph of ourselves!


Remember my "Final Fifteen" posts? I was with you- NEVER wanting to post about weight loss... well, that was a bust, I lost 9 or the 15 but that was all I could do and still nurse at the same time. Bummer... I was waking up dizzy though, so clearly, it wasn't my time.

Do you like to work out? I love it and HIGHLY recommend Turbo Jam! And, FWDGF is a GREAT philosophy... and every time I have a baby I hop on Weight Watchers for a couple months... et voila! (Only cause I eat like such a porker when I am prego and WW "bitch slaps" me back into portion reality... if you will. Pardon the lingo.

Your comment cracked me up about my comment cracking you up and the more I read your posts and we exchange these comments the more I truly wish we lived closer and could become "real life" friends. I think you're just a doll!

LOVE your blog. I'm looking to get more fit and lose about 10 pounds. I'm not really going for a number (weight) I want to be at....more how I want to look. I have this vision in my head of how I want to look. So yah, I'm in!

I'm gonna add my name to the list :) In fact, I just joined Weight Watchers Online yesterday! I have some extra weight left over from all my kiddos and I can't wait to lose it. It's just so darn hard!

Today was day one of WW & I have to say my tummy isn't used to this. I never ate bad...I just didn't have the right proportions.'s to skinny jeans :)

I have four tubs of B&J sitting in my freezer. Four. Brand new bought today. My usual tactic of getting bad stuff out of the house is to eat it. Fast. Perhaps I'll try a different tactic this time. I'm with you. You know it.

I am IN! 20 in 10 is a very realistic and healthy goal! I have a lot more than 20 to lose, but will start with you all on the 10 week push. Let's do this!
