Little Bit o' This, Little Bit o' That

Do you have go-to recipes that are just a little bit o' this and a little bit o' that, mix and serve?
Just whatever sounds yummy, add it to the bare bones recipe and go.
Here's one of mine.

Turkey Pasta Salad

Turkey Tenderloin (sold in the refridg. poultry section), cut up
Pasta Noodles (I love Cavatappi for this, but I have bowtie in the pic)
Celery
Grapes (red are prettiest)
Ranch Dressing

That's the bare bones. And with this type of recipe you don't get any fancy amounts or instructions. Just bake the turkey, cook the pasta and put it all in in the amounts that look good to you.

You can add these things to make it a bit more exciting:
Bacon bits, red or green onion, peas or anything else that sounds delish.

Post your own informal recipe and then let me know so I can come and snag it from ya.

Making Blueberry Sauce

Remember our trip to the Blueberry patch? And my 12 pound crop?

Here's what I did with a mere 3 cups of the now frozen berries.

BLUEBERRY SAUCE
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp. cornstarch
dash of salt
1/2 cup water
2 cups blueberries
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Stir in water. Add berries. Bring to a boil; simmer until clear and thickened, about 4 minutes. Remove from heat and add lemon juice (opt).
Delicious served on desserts, angel food cake, puddings or warm over ice cream, waffles and pancakes.
If a thicker sauce is desired, add extra cornstarch.

There's my finished product! So yummy and waiting for pancakes & ice cream.

The Bachelorette a la Jill ~ The Final Rose

Ed!

I thought I'd be happy to see Kiptyn go. I wasn't ecstatic; it was sad. They had a sweet connection just not the right one.

I thought I'd be happy to see Reid back. I wasn't; it was sad too. I am sorta sad that he put himself out there and got shot down but it was clear to me how badly she just wanted Ed to be there.

I love that she picked Ed. Her family said that she and Kip had the yin and yang connection...I think they were wrong. I think she and Ed are the yin and yang. He is so steady and even; she is exciting and searching for adventure. They're a fabulous balance.
Match made in Reality TV heaven. I'm hoping this has a Trista & Ryan love written all over it.
What do you think?

Fashion a la Jillian

Here's the deal with this blog. It's about the clothes Jill has worn on the past episodes of The Bachelorette. I'm not going to tell you where to find them at full price or cheaper or look-alikes or anything like that. I don't have time for that mumbo-jumbo. I just wanna look. If you want some of these duds for yourself, by all means, click on the photo credit links and help yourself!

First things first. The white, bejewelled (symbolic?) gown from the very first cocktail party and rose ceremony. Breathtaking; and set the bar really high for the rest of the show. Thankfully, she lived up. :)

Here's the fringy black number she wore for the date with Jake. Love the movement of the dress for dancing and those boots? The best.
I'm not sure if she ever worse this get-up on the show but I still like it. The necklace and black tank are a perfect combo.
This one wasn't on the show either (movie premier?) but I found it and she's adorable so I had to post it. Like the color?
Another lovely rose ceremony formal. Drama in gunmetal!

Here it is, the infamous shirt that brought out the worst in creepy Dave...or maybe that was the booze?

This plaid number was probably my least favorite. I'm not big on plaid even if it is trendy. I also didn't like the one laaaarge, purple shirt she wore at one point. (no photo of that)
Here's another of my favorite formals.
Let's throw in a magazine photo shoot. How stinkin' cute?! Ugh...can't handle it.

Bikini + Fedora + cardigan...perfecto!

Another dazzling rose ceremony.

And then came the fantastic procession of ensembles she wore in Spain. The girl was smokin'.

Claiming this one as my very favorite.

Claiming this one as my second very favorite.

An ornate, sparkly cuff for dinner with Ed (probably the winner).
Happy in Hawaii...cute necklace!

Sweet silk hankie maxidress for the most recent rose ceremony with her final two.

And...a sneak peak at Monday night's episode. Beautiful jewels (again, not too ornate but just enough) and another long white dress...again with the unmistakable symbolism.

You favorites?

Tents

Every year, about this time, I start to romanticize the camping experience. The tent, the open fire, roasting hot dogs on a freshly plucked stick. Bugs? What bugs?
Scary bathrooms? What scary bathrooms?
It's all roses for me in July.
Fall? When the yearly camping trip actually comes? That's when it gets realistic.
But lets not get ahead of ourselves. It's still only July...
Here's what I wish camping was:

The Bachelorette a la Jill ~ Episode 9

First off, I missed blogging about last week's episode so can I get a big "YeeHAW!" from my girls out there to celebrate the rose-less-ness of Mr. Can't-Carry-A-Country-Tune? :) So happy.

Now that we've had a rip-roaring good time about Wes' departure, let's have a moment of silence for Reid.
I think they were a fantastic couple.
I think it's a little sad that Jill booted him because he couldn't get the right words out.
Ahem? People? Kiptyn was more outright with his refusal of an engagement than Reid was and he's still around...
I just don't know how I feel about this.

Now, for the final two.

Ed.
Good old Ed. Maybe I was wrong in my assumption that Jillian was just nursing her ego when he left. Maybe she did feel a lot for him.
Sweet that he brought his parents to Maui.
Sweet that he dropped the "L" word.
I'm just not sure I absolutely see everything that's going on between the two of them.
And that bit about the hotel room and romance and...well...I just don't know what to say about that.

And Kiptyn.
I think this one might be our winner. The only thing that may throw a wrench in the happy ending is him refusing to make lil Jill happy and pop the question (I think Ed would do it in a heartbeat).
They seemed like a good team on the ropes course.
We all know how she feels about kissing him...less is...less and more is waaay more.

The wind is a little gone out of my sail since she sent Reid home. Boo on that choice, Jillie. I'm not loving it.

What I am loving? Her clothes.
(Have I said that already?)
I'm going to have to do a Jillian Fashion post just to rehash all her fabulous outfits. Honestly, the girl is fierce.

Good Books

Parenting is not an easy task. Good parenting is in-the-trenches labor. Perfect parenting is impossible. (Hard for a perfectionist, like me, to grasp.)

I'm not looking to be a perfect parent or even a good parent by this society's standards; I'm looking to be a godly parent.

It helps so much to have the insight of those who have gone before me. Here are some of my favorite parenting resources with a Christian world-view.

For the Children's Sake by Susan Schaffer Macualay - a look at better education
The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartian - in depth prayers to pray for your children
Bringing Up Boys by Dr. James Dobson - a must-read for any parents of boys.
The Ministry and Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson - inspiring reads about creating a nurturing home environment for your children
Seasons of a Mother's Heart by Sally Clarkson - encouragement for loving mothers

I'd love to have a list from the mothers. What are your favorite, most impacting parenting books?

Berry Pickin'

We took our summery little selves Blueberry picking this week. The perfect day. Bits of cloud and bits of sun, sweet breezes and the shade of blueberry bushes.

My girl was having a fine time with her bucket and swingin' pony tail.

We even tried to dress like blueberries!

My Grandma Sunshine adored every little berry and gave plenty of lectures on the virtues of antioxidants. :)They are pretty gorgeous. And super delish.

I got a bit obsessed with popping those little globes off their branches and ended up with 12 pounds of berries! What's a girl to do with 12 lbs of blueberries?

I think I'll make blueberry sauce for pancakes. And I'm planning a blueberry crisp for after Sunday supper. Freeze the rest and create scones and pies and muffins come Fall?
What are your favorite blueberry recipes? Share!
