Daily Anne ~ 7th Installation

"Oh, look, here's a big bee just tumbled out of an apple blossom. Just think what a lovely place to live - in an apple blossom! Fancy going to sleep in it when the wind was rocking it. If I wasn't a human girl I think I'd like to be a bee and live among the flowers."

"Yesterday you wanted to be a sea-gull," sniffed Marilla. "I think you are very fickle-minded."

Daily Anne ~ 6th Installation

"Why must people kneel to pray? If I really wanted to pray I'll tell you what I'd do. I'd go out into the great big field all alone or into the deep, deep woods, and I'd look up into the sky - up - up - up - into that lovely blue sky that looks as if there was no end to its blueness. And then I'd just feel a prayer."

Daily Anne ~ 5th Installation

"You'd find it easier to be bad than good if you had red hair," said Anne reproachfully. "People who haven't red hair don't know what trouble is. Mrs. Thomas told me that God made my hair red on purpose, and I've never cared about Him since. And anyhow I'd always be too tired at night to bother saying prayers. People have to look after twins can't be expected to say their prayers. Now, do you honestly think they can?"

Daily Anne ~ 4th Installation

"...isn't pink the most bewitching color in the world? I love it, but I can't wear it. Redheaded people can't wear pink, not even in imagination. Did you ever know of anybody whose hair was red when she was young, but got to be another color when she grew up?"

"No, I don't know as I ever did," said Marilla mercilessly...

"...Well, that is another hope gone. My life is a perfect graveyard of buried hopes. That's a sentence I read in a book once, and I say it over to comfort myself whenever I'm disappointed in anything...it sounds so nice and romantic, just as if I were a heroine in a book, you know. I am so fond of romantic things, and a graveyard full of buried hopes is about as romantic a thing as one can imagine, isn't it? I'm rather glad I have one."

Daily Anne ~ 3rd Installation

"I like things to have handles even if they are only geraniums. It makes them seem more like people. How do you know but that it hurts a geranium's feelings just to be called a geranium and nothing else? You wouldn't like to be called nothing but a woman all the time. Yes, I shall call it Bonny. I named that cherry tree outside my bedroom window this morning. I called it Snow Queen because it was so white. Of course, it won't always be in blossom, but one can imagine that it is, can't one?"

"I never in all my life saw or heard anything equal to her," muttered Marilla...

Spinach Quiche

I'm a bit aghast at myself. I haven't shared this delish recipe on my blog yet. How dare I?!

This is a quiche my mom has always made...since the beginning of time. Eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch, snack, appetizer...
You get the idea.

And it has spinach in it, so it's healthy!
Never mind the crescent rolls, cream and cheese. They don't matter.

Mom's Spinach Quiche

8 oz can crescent rolls
4 oz shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 c. half and half
10 oz. package of frozen, chopped spinach (drained)
3 eggs (beaten)
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/8 tsp. nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Unroll crescent rolls into 2 long rectangles. Place in ungreased 13x9 pan; press over bottom and half way up the sides to form crust.

In medium bowl, combine cheddar, Parmesan and flour. Add half & half, spinach, eggs, and spices. Mix well. Pour into crust.

Bake at 350 for 45-50 mins.

So yummy served with citrus; orange juice or orange wedges. Or sliced strawberries.

Let me know if you make it! :)

The Bachelorette a la Jill ~ Episode 2

Fun show tonight, eh? (slipping in a little Canadian for the Jill lovers.)

Let me start with the most important thing first: Fashion.

Jillian's grey/lavender bejeweled number on the first date was absolutely, completely jaw-droppingly lovely. Just perfect. I didn't love the million dollar necklace with it that slimey Wes and his not-so-cute partner presented her...but ya can't win 'em all.

That brings me to my next topic. The bad guys.

Bad Guy #1 - Wes. As I've said before. He's slimey. He's slippery. He's phoney. He wants a record deal. Too bad he's losing potential fans by being an absolute pinhead.
Jerk.

The Worst Guy - Wes

Bad Guy #2 - David. What the hothead?! He's completely nasty and needs to just take a break. What's the deal with this 'man code' he's been shouting around about?
Here's something you don't need a code to understand: You're scary. Relax.
Bad Guy #3 - Tanner P.
Dear Jill,
Get rid of a Tanner. It will make things easier and much cooler. This Tanner? He's got a foot fetish. It makes you nervous and awkward. Let him go.
Love, Mrs. B.
Bad Guy #4 - Juan. He's girly. He talks too much. And I tend to agree with blow-a-gasket David about the phony-vibe.

These four morons need to go. And fast. That's all I will say about that.
How about the good guys? There were two that really stood out for me.
Good Guy #1 - Mike. Yup, the guy that streaked across the beach in a teeny weeny (no pun intended) speedo. I just think he's nice. His hair makes me jealous.
Good Guy #2 - Jake.
I. Love. Jake.
Dear Jill,
You might not always go for the 'good guys' but if you want a good life, if you want happiness, if you want a man that would be a good father for your babies, pick a good guy this time. Jake is a good option.
I consider myself an expert about the 'good guys.' I found one quite early in life and haven't thought twice about it.
Sincerely, Mrs. B.
P.S. He had lovely washboard abs. I am an expert about those too...you want those in your 'good guy.'
The Best Guy - Jake

The guys I didn't mention didn't quite make my radar yet. Except for Kiptyn. I don't know how to feel about him so he hasn't made any list yet. How do you feel about him? How do you feel about the way she virtually kiss-attacked him? Weird, no?
Do you agree/disagree about my good/bad picks?
Were you as sad to see Matheu go as I was? :(
Are you still thinking about the white dress from last week? I am. Can't get it out of my head. I loved that beauty.

Daily Anne ~ 2nd Installation

"...the tree; of course it's lovely - yes, it's radiantly lovely - it blooms as if it meant it - but I meant everything, the garden and the orchard and the brook and the woods, the whole big dear world. Don't you feel as if you just loved the world on a morning like this?"

The Bachelorette a la Jill ~ Episode 1

It's all a bit of a blur. 30 men? I was reeling by the time Jill was passing out roses...can't imagine how she must've felt. Do you think she has a teleprompter to remind her of the names she's picked? I could never remember all those Tanners and Johns and Marks and Mikes. Never.

Not much to say here...it will get more interesting as time moves on (looks like a bit too interesting from the teaser at the end of the show).

Favorite moment: The breakdancing face-off.

Most awkward moment: Dave's mute entrance.

Most redeeming moment: Dave getting the 1st impression rose despite his mute entrance.

Most weirdo moment: This Tanner P. guy checking out the arches on Jillian's feet. Yikes?

Favorite quote: "She must not like awesome guys." Said by the ego-deflated Stephen from NYC.

Jillian & Stephen
eliminated

I do think she had a connection with this Mathue person. He's the personal trainer who had her sign his country music hall of fame hat.

And I think she had a little connection with Kiptyn too. He seems like a nice enough guy...despite the name. Maybe there's a story there?

I am wondering if somewhere in production there was a mix-up and they turned this show into 'The Fashionista' instead of 'Bachelorette.' Did you see the beginning montage of Jill in all her a-stinkin'-dorable outfits?? My Lordy! Ladies, if you don't watch the show for the 'romance' watch it for Jill's dressing abilities. I guess the interior design comes in handy while dressing too.

I'm in a bit of a fog. You know how you go to a foreign country and everyone looks the same until you've been there for awhile? That's how I feel about all of these dudes. Maybe we've taken a trip to Testosteroneville and we need to get past the culture shock...

Daily Anne ~ 1st Installation

"...Anne is such an unromantic name."

"Unromantic fiddlesticks!" said the unsympathetic Marilla. "Anne is a real good plain sensible name. You've no need to be ashamed of it."

"Oh, I'm not ashamed of it," explained Anne, "only I like Cordelia better. I've always imagined that my name was Cordelia - at least, I always have of late years. When I was young I used to imagine it was Geraldine, but I like Cordelia better now. But if you call me Anne please call me Anne spelled with an e."

"What difference does it make how it's spelled?" asked Marilla with another rusty smile as she picked up the teapot.

"Oh, it makes such a difference. It looks so much nicer. When you hear a name pronounced can't you always see it in you mind just as if it was printed out? I can; and A-n-n looks dreadful, but A-n-n-e looks so much more distinguished. If you'll only call me Anne spelled with an e I shall try to reconcile myself to not being called Cordelia."

"Very well, then, Anne spelled with an e..."

The Summer of Anne

Anne of Green Gables. The entire, 8 book series. This Summer. *Sigh*
What a delight.
I'm reading along with an acquaintance from college, whom I can now firmly call a 'friend.' We reconnected over our love for reading via facebook. One more point for my beloved facebook.
If I'm not blogging much this Summer its because I'm out soaking up every ounce of vitamin D (sounds so much more important than 'sunbathing') possible, giggling with my children over the feel of caterpillars on their cheeks and the habits of fireflies in the twilight or simply immersing myself in the world of Anne Shirley.
(Not to worry, my reality TV cronies, I will be posting on Monday nights about the plights of our Bachelorette...cannot neglect that important feature of this blog!)
While I'll be blogging less in these Summertime months, I want to instill a new, temporary feature: Daily Anne.
Anne says so many clever, hilarious things that I just have to share some with you. When I come across a doozy or one that makes me think, I will post here. I hope you love Miss Anne as much as I do...

The Bachelorette Begins...

Jillian is princess for the day! (or the reality TV season...whichever)

I'm so excited to watch her. Excited and a little wary. I hated all the nastiness from last season and I have a terrible feeling this one isn't going to be much better. I'm speculating...are these guys in it to hit their 'big break'? Is Jillian looking for a footing in Hollywood? Will the producers mess with the fate of the characters?

But, since I'm so excited and ready to chat it up with you guys about it, I'm going to do a purely physical assessment of some of the bachelors vying for Little Miss Thang's attention this season.

Wes:
he's a musician.
I feel some original songs coming on.
Oh help me...

Michael:
he's a break dance instructor.
What?!
He looks like he needs a happy pill...
or maybe a stop-taking-yourself-so-seriously pill.

Kiptyn:
he's a business developer.
Seems respectable...
but then, his name is KIPTYN.
Oh my.

Jake:
he's a commercial pilot.
Yay. A good job and a good name.
We've got a winner.

Greg:

he's an 'entrepreneur.'
That seems shady to me...

Caleb:

photographer.
And apparently a David Cook wannabe.

David:
he's a trucking contractor.
I'm not sure if he's cute or not.
I need to see him in (TV) action.

And then...
there's this guy.
Kyle:

he's a graphic designer.
One of these things is not like the other...
he's not so cute.

So there are some of them. A group of strange names, fake tans and suspiciously lime-light seeking livelihoods. Hum...
The real question is, how do they dress their hot dogs?

Real Life Tuesday - 11

I love Real Life Tuesdays. They're quite the crack-up.

Here's our pregnant girl from two weeks ago...she looks really happy...murderously happy. What does she know that we don't know?

"In Real Life if I have a good hard laugh like the one she is having, I better be prepared to change undies because I WILL spring a leak."

Jordan

Jordan should win. She's on her 5th pregnancy and is quite close to the 40 week mark. Hang in there, Jordan, and keep the pads close! :)

Take a look at this family picnic.
