Dreamy Wedding Shoes

I was browsing (new favorite eye candy website) projectwedding.com and came across this sweet wedding trend.

White dress + Vibrant Shoes = Wedding Bliss

Ohhhh...the vintagey fabulousness is killing me with these teal numbers. These would be my pick for sure.

Can you say, "Sassy"?

Again with the "something blue."

Pretty Pink.

Which would you choose?

The Bachelor Dish ~ Part Four

Phew! What a roller coaster this week was! One of the most emotional episodes for sure.

Here's what I'm thinkin':

Molly: One on one date in the backyard; fire, s'mores and scandalous sounds included. He likes her lots. I mean lots, lots. And I'm beginning to see the draw. She seems low-maintenance and she is eloquent. She comes across and a girl next door. One thing that turned me off a bit was her gloating about the ahem...overnight wardrobe change. She could have just slipped up the steps instead of finding everyone and "complaining" about how tired she was. Not classy. Not at all.

Naomi: I'm a bit mystified. I'm not sure what he sees in her. Maybe he just likes big cheek moles...
Okay, that was mean, I take that back.

Jillian: Still one of my faves but being slowly nudged to second favorite by Melissa. Maybe it's just 'cause we didn't see much of her this week.

Stephanie: I was surprised she got the rose on the two on one date but happy surprised. Nikki turned me off a bunch this episode, saying catty remarks about Stephanie's first marriage and completely freaking out about the singing assignment. Really, girl, stop thinking everything through so much!
Woo...guess I just had to get that out. Back to Steph, she's sweet but where's the chemistry? Is there any? I think not.

Melissa: So real. So sweet. Just right.
Jason really seems to enjoy kissing on this girl. She and Molly are the ones I see with the most romantic connection to him thus far.
Okay, here are some miscellaneous thoughts:
So glad that Megan and Lauren are history. So glad.
Lauren has no future in singing/songwriting. None whatsoever. And that whole "Wanna be Famous" bit in the end? Ridiculous.
Here's a tip, it's not charming to boss a guy around.
I thought it was honorable of him (as honorable as The Bachelor can get, it's all relative) to let go three girls instead of two. Good man.
The public kissing on the G.H. set? Excruciating! I felt especially bad for little Melissa...she was dying.
Alright, chime in, my lovelies!

Something Beautiful

It's Monday. I need something beautiful. Do you?

A wedding in the courtyard.

Lessons From A&P

A&P II is a bit more in depth and intense than A&P I...makes sense, right?

But, here's what I'm learning right now (how much do you love when I share what I'm learning?): there really is such a thing as heart strings. And we thought that was just a sweet little saying!

No folks, they're really called chordae tendineae and we'd die without them. Our blood would flow the wrong way if they didn't work.

See them right there in the right and left ventricles? Making sure our heart valves open and close properly.

There you have it. Consider yourself informed.

Miss America

Last night Miss Indiana was crowned Miss America.

She is cute as a stinkin' button - even Mr. B. used those words. She reminded us of a mixture of Rachel McAdams and Sara Groves in beauty queen form.

Floor-Plan Saturday - My "Thing"

I have this "thing." Always have.

I really really like house plans.

I used to draw them when I was little and dream about living there. They ran the gamut from modest to mansion. I'm sure they were all equally un-buildable. Being there are rules and mathematics involved in architecture - we all know how I feel about math...

Anyway, in honor of my quiet obsession with floor-plans I'm going to begin a new feature. Floor-Plan Saturday.

For my first installation we are looking at 3,126 sq. foot home that caters to outdoor living in a most fantastic way.

You can find this plan at eplans.com. It is house plan #HWEPL14530.

Blurb from eplans.com:
This open floor plan and wrapping porches provides for many opportunities to enjoy calming views, capturing the essence of outdoor living. The screen porch with outdoor fireplace produces a comfortable way to enjoy the outdoors, even when mother nature doesn't always comply.Features a vaulted foyer and dramatic dining room which lead into the lodge room, complete with an impressive stone fireplace and vaulted ceiling. An open and airy kitchen leads onto a screen porch.

Main Floor:

Some stats:

Bedrooms: 3
Baths: 2
Half Baths: 1
Width: 104'
Depth: 83'
Stories: 1
Garage Bays: 2
Foundations: Crawlspace,Slab,Unfinished Walkout Basement

Something I always look for in a dream home is a grand entrance. I love it when you can see out the back door from the front. An airy, open feeling.

This house has a great kitchen in the middle of the house - a major plus. All living space is the main floor - fantastic. Do you see that awesome wraparound porch/screened porch/deck? Perfect to enjoy your mountain and lake views. :)

Laundry room, butler's pantry and mudroom = Happy Mama.

Here is a photo of the kitchen in finished form:

Loving the stone, green and wood combo.

How do you like it? Rate it on a scale of 1-5. 5 being dream-home material.

I give it a 4.5. You?

Frivolous Friday

It's been awhile for our frivolous Friday rendezvous. So here we go...tidbits that really don't mean anything but make life a bit more fun.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner had their second baby girl a couple of weeks ago. I am aware that this is old news but I just found out so I'm posting it. They named her Seraphina. What do you think of that?

I just found this picture of these two at Brad's UK premier of Benjamin Button. They look quite classy and uppity, don't you think? I like the grey...
And for a new feature to Star-crossed, Friday Fill-Ins.
1. Oh, I am so over winter!
2. I try to welcome changes, big and little.
3. During movies, I love to eat.
4. He's still not potty trained; are you kidding me???
5. Right now I'd like to be abroad.
6. My reading light is my favorite gadget.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing, tomorrow my plans include watching the Miss America Pageant and Sunday, I want to make chili!

Romance

atilla1000 photostream: flickr

A letter from Major Sullivan Ballou to his wife, Sarah, a week before the first Battle of Bull Run:
July 14, 1861
Camp Clerk, Washington, D.C.
My very dear Sarah,
The indications are very strong that we shall move in a few days - perhaps tomorrow. Lest I should not be able to write again, I feel impelled to write a few lines that may fall under your eye when I shall be no more...
The memories of the blissful moments I have spent with you come creeping over me, and I feel most gratified to God and to you that I have enjoyed them so long. The hopes of future years, when, God willing we might still have lived and loved together, and seen our sons grow up to honorable manhood, around us. I have, I know, but few and small claims upon Divine Providence, but something whispers to me - perhaps it is the wafted prayer of my little Edgar, that I shall return to my loved ones unharmed. If I do not, my dear Sarah, never forget how much I love you, and when my last breath escapes me on the battlefield, it will whisper your name. Forgive my many faults, and the many pains I have caused you. How thoughtless and foolish I have often times been! How gladly I would wash out with my tears every little spot upon your happiness...
But, O Sara! if the dead can come back to this earth and flit unseen around those they loved, I shall always be near you; in the gladdest days and int he darkest nights...always always, and if there be a soft breeze upon your cheek, it shall be my breath, as the cool air fans your throbbing temple, it shall be my spirit passing by. Sarah, do not mourn me dead; think I am gone and wait for thee for we shall meet again.
Sullivan Ballou was killed at the first battle of Bull Run...

Contrasts

Consider this quote from Sarah Ban Breathnach's book Something More:
"A libertine is invited everywhere but rarely goes out (which always makes her presence an event) and believes in a body-mind-spirit approach to nutrition, consisting mainly of grapes (red seedless), chocolate truffles, and champagne. She gives great gifts, follows boxing as a spiritual path, considers that she has been sexually harassed when she is not told she looks beautiful, and worries when they aren't whispering behind her back: 'Isn't she a piece of work.'"

And from the dictionary:
Libertine: –noun
1.a person who is morally or sexually unrestrained, esp. a dissolute man; a profligate; rake.
2.a freethinker in religious matters.
3.a person freed from slavery in ancient Rome.–adjective
4.free of moral, esp. sexual, restraint; dissolute; licentious.
5.freethinking in religious matters.
6.Archaic. unrestrained; uncontrolled.

When I first read the above bit I chuckled and luxuriated in Ban Breathnach's take on a libertine woman. It is whimsical, comical and cute.

But is it really?

Because my next passage of reading came from Proverbs 31:

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and her praises her, 'Many women have done excellently but you surpass them all.'
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
Pv. 31:25-30

A libertine is praised in our society. Thought of as courageous and admirable. Society means nothing to me for "a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

Your thoughts...can you be a libertine and a godly woman at the same time?

That Time of Year

The Bachelor Dish - Part Three

Oy...the drama!

There was no shortage of tears, nervous tummies and rolling eyes on last night's Bachelor. The cats...er...ladies had their claws out, sharpened and painted every shade of red.

Here's how I feel about the eliminated bachelorettes: Yay.
Erica - one drama queen down, one to go (namely, Megan).
Kari - too mousy w/ no visible personality...Houston, do we have a heartbeat?
and Natalie - the blonde, high maintenance gal that got the amazing jewels, only to be stripped of them at the end of her disastrous date. Almost made me laugh...but then I felt too bad, so I couldn't.

Anyway, no loss to me or Jason with those ladies gone. Adios.

Here are the ladies that are left:

My least favorite is Megan (potty-mouth w/ a superiority complex) with Shannon (strange, strange, strange) and (drama-girl disguised as nice-girl) Lauren.
Molly is becoming a dark horse. He seems to like her a lot although I can't really tell why...

Nikki had a terribly awkward moment when she ran out of things to talk about with Jason. Oh my, I was squirming in my jammies and hiding behind my pillow I was so embarrassed for her.

Naomi is just ho-hum. I'm not sure how I feel about her, therefore I'm sure Jason doesn't know how to feel either. (My feelings reign supreme on this blog, remember? And I unabashedly project my emotions onto everyone.)
Melissa is still cute and fun-loving and girly. That all American gal that I wouldn't mind seeing make it far.
Stephanie, I love. I love her more and more every episode. I thought it was a bit strange that she said she wanted a man she could "take care of." But I see where she's coming from. She's obviously a nurturer and she seems like she'd be great at meeting the needs of some lucky man. But the face lifts? Good Lord, she barely looks human...really.
Okay, still my very favorite person is Jillian. She's grand. As I said before, I'd date her. Enough about that.
What do you think? Give me some insight, friends. Why does J like Molly so much? What's the deal w/ Naomi? Does he like her or is she just an extra? Were you glad to see Natalie go? How about the "most dramatic rose ceremony yet"? Do you truly think it was the most dramatic?
Dish away!

Oh, and I just wanted to add (to ensure that you don't all think I'm a completely irrelevant, reality-TV-watching ninny) that I watched the inaugural ceremonies today and though Obama was not my first choice, I am optimistic and excited about this new phase in American history. Our first black president! That is something amazing, folks.

Junkie.

Given my recent posts about The Bachelor and this little excited bit, you're really going to think I'm a reality TV junkie. (For the record I like So You Think You Can Dance, Miss America, The Hills, Project Runway, America's Next Top Model and The Amazing Race too.)

But I'm not scared. I can be a junkie...I'll admit it. I know that's one of the first steps to recovery. But I don't wanna recover!

Anyway, another season of American Idol starts tonight; and while I'm not quite as excited about this season as I have been other seasons, I'll be watching. How about you?

The Bachelor Dish - Part Two

Another night of The Bachelor and I have a tad bit more faith in Jason's likelihood of finding a girl at the end of this whole thing. A wife? Maybe not. A girlfriend? Yep.
I do, however think he has about 3-5 girls he's got picked out and the other ladies are just hanging around because it's a reality show and production requires Jason to keep them. No chemistry whatsoever.
Here are the ladies I am sure he's got something going with:
Nikki. She's beautiful. She seems smart enough. She's down-to-earth. She's loyal. She seems ready to be an instamother (although, who is ever really prepared for motherhood?). But my, oh my...she is so serious!
Does the chick ever smile? Does she ever have any fun? Can she charm him or is she just good at doomsday warnings?
If I were her I'd lighten up just a bit; then maybe she'll have a chance.

Melissa. She got a one-on-one date. She had fun. She smiled and laughed and impressed him with her quick responses about being a 1st grade teacher and a mother. She's a shoe-in until the very end...unless something terrible happens. Like, Deanna's return...
Jillian. Once again last and once again, my very favorite. If I were I guy, I'd date her. Right away. Now. Forever. :)
She's funny. She's soooo cute. She's got a fun little accent. She's smart. Successful. Old enough to know what's going on. Knows about long-term relationships. Etc. etc.
Can you tell who I'm rooting for? Love this girl.
Time will tell...Who are you rooting for so far? Who are your standouts? What about the drama last night? Glad about the Brazilian and the square-nosed blonde leaving roseless? (I am!)
Let's dish ladies (and gents)...that's what this is all about!!
