Pregnancy Perk #4 & #5

Pregnancy Perk #4:

Baby Hiccups
Love the feeling of those rhythmical bump, bump bumps. Could be nothing but hiccups.
Unless, of course, Baby B. is a budding genius percussion player...

Pregnancy Perk #5:

Hitting the half-way mark

I am 20 weeks along today. That's 50% down.
Such a good feeling.

The True Tale of an Autumn Day

One brisk day, when Halloween was one week away and anticipation was high, two little children took their mom and dad to the pumpkin farm to get a perfect pumpkin.
Beck, the little boy, and Evie, the wee girl, shopped the pumpkin bin for the just right pumpkin.
It had to be big and round. It had to be bright and heavy.
In her pen was a gentle calf. Oreo was her name. She blinked her long lashes at Beck and Evie and maybe she smiled a little.
A potbellied pig hunkered in its bed of straw. If the children looked very closely they could spy two shivering piggy rumps buried in the straw to keep warm.
With their big, round, bright, heavy pumpkin found and the farm animals visited it was time for the rosy cheeked children to bring their mom and dad home.
After the children had eaten their tricky, yellow corn and fluffy potatoes, mom said, "It's time for a harvest party!"
They squealed with joy.

Dad drew a face on the perfect pumpkin. The children wanted a happy face, not a scary face.

Dad used a big knife and his strong arms to cut the top off this perfect pumpkin. Beck and Evie watched.

And then it was time to dig in.

Separate the smooth seeds from slimy pulp. A fun job for little hands.

And the most exciting part came. Dad cut the smiling face into the pumpkin. Transforming him into a happy jack-o-lantern.

Pumpkin cupcakes with candies on top were the party food.

Mom pulled out some spooky reading and Beck and Evie snuggled with their mommy on the couch to hear stories. They watched the jack-o-lantern shine and flicker from their cozy spot; for dad had lit a candle and placed it inside.

Fresh roasted pumpkin seeds, collected by the little ones, came warm from the oven. Salty and crunchy. They were gone quickly.

The end of the night came and Beck and Evie said "goodnight" to their pumpkin friend.
They snuggled into their beds and dreamed sweetly of kind cows and shining, smiling pumpkin faces.

A Bachelor EnGAGement

Yep, I think I'm pretty clever with my title. But here it is: the news the seals the deal, Molly and Jason are engaged. Remember our utter disgust and outrage and the mayhem that broke out when Jason broke up with Melissa? Here's a reminder.

Well...whether the girlfriend switch-a-roo was planned or not I think Molly and J are a good little match. I guess he'll be staring into her "endlessly beautiful" eyes for a lifetime.

As a little parting topic in this whole saga: How do you feel about the engagement?

Dog Lover Decor

Is this design idea adorable or what?
I have dogs and I like them well enough but I'm not what you would call a dog enthusiast. I'll leave that title to my mother in law. :)
But this is a really sweet way to feature your doggies.

One of Those Kind of Days...

Real Life Tuesday - 14

Two weeks ago I posted this adorable girl with the wind in her hair. Apparently she's just reveling in a rainy day. Why does reveling and rain never occur simultaneously in real life?

Anyway, I liked all the comments - as always. But had two favorites. Here they are:

In real life, I couldn't find my umbrella cause my 2 year old clepto took it and hid it somewhere(probably in the garbage). So I would be running to my car with my purse over my head.

In real life I gag on the hair I accidentally just breathed in. The worst feeling ever btway.
from Jamie at {Always on my Mind}
I can commiserate with Jamie about the hair gag. It's the worst.
Mr. B. gagged on my hair on a windy day in Minneapolis once. Romance jumped straight off the bridge we were standing on...

Frivolous Friday

It has been confirmed: the lucky man serving as bachelor in January's season of The Bachelor is Jake. Story here.

I've been given a little grief (mostly by the male population) for taking my Bachelor blogs so seriously. So I'll pose the question to my readers that actually comment on my writing...Shall I write my Bachelor blogs this season?

I Watched.

Stephanie Nielson writer of the popular blog, Nie Nie Dialogues was on Oprah today. She talked about her plane crash and life afterward. So touching. So real. So needed for me right now.

I'm struggling. I'm struggling with staying at home with my kids. I'm struggling with the daily-ness of life. I'm struggling with the intensity of my children's need of me. I'm struggling with the demand of school. My body is making another baby and its tired. My mind is flashing forward to the added responsibility of another child added to the (already chaotic) mix and its scary. My spirit feels neglected and needy because everything seems to come before its well-being.

So yeah, I needed a little bit of a reality check. Nie almost died. She almost left her family, her husband and her beautiful children. She almost wasn't here...

I am here. That should be enough. Oprah said to "Live in the moment" as one of her closing statements in the show today...I'm going to try.

Real Life Tuesday - 13

You are some funny people.

There were so many comments about how tiny this model's waist is that I just had to go back and give it a second look. And you're right! Either this girl has got her Spanx really tight or she's giving Scarlett O'Hara a run for her money.

In either case, she's unrealistically tiny. Hence, the need for a little real life to be thrown in.

It was hard to pick a fave from the fun comments you left but, amazing me has done it again. Here's the one that put it nice and concise:

In real life that horse would be kicking and going crazy
from being hit in the eye with a button that
popped off that skirt.

Right?! Those buttons wouldn't have a dream of buttoning around even one of my thighs. That horses eyes would be in peril. Flying buttons love to land in eyeballs.

Here's a beauty on a windy, rainy fall day. What does that really look like?

I love beautiful things. I love beautiful people. I think that's okay...I think God made us to appreciate beauty. Inside and out.

This photo shoot by Lars Botten completely caught me with the beauty of its subjects. I'm not sure if they're mother and daughter (that's what I'm leaning toward) but they are lovely, are they not?

I would love to look like the older lady when I reach that age. Her white hair and smile lines even the marks that tell of her enjoyment of the sunshine...

Floor-Plan Saturday ~ 8th Edition

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Here's the dream that goes along w/ this home (for me, anyway).
Mr. B. and I are retired. We travel - to China mostly but also take vacations to Greece, the South of France, Paris, New Zealand, know, the usual. But we don't need some massive home because we're empty nesters. Did I mention we have a luxe RV that we traipse all over the country visiting our loved-ones in? Yup, there's that too. It's our home away from home.

But home base. Every jet-setter in her twilight of life needs a home base.

It's in South Carolina. In the Charleston area. And here it is:

Square Feet: 2010
Bedrooms: 3
Full Baths: 3
Stories: 1 1/2
Front & Rear porches
9 ft ceilings up and down

Main Floor:

In adoration of: The three entrances off the front, covered porch. So very old south.
The detached garage in back.
The nice shape of the kitchen.
The fireplace.
Second Floor:

The laundry room is up here, right off the hallway. So clever.
And the Master Suite and Guest Room are on the same level yet separate. Great for privacy.
I love the size of this house. It has all the little features you might want but its so manageable!
I give it a 5. You?

Frivolous Friday

Ah...the weekend is upon us. I have a busy one, but I'm not going to tell you what it's full of - it might not get done and I don't want that kind of accountability. I want the freedom to fail. ;)

Here are some delicious, heartening photos of gorgeous people doing...well...what they probably haven't done in days or weeks. Maybe that's why they take such huuuge bites and have a certain look of desperation in their eyes?

I would so hate to live in Hollywood...

Nicole Ritchie + Sandwich

Katherine Heigl + Hostess

Heidi Klum + Spaghetti

Britney Spears + Ice cream

Jennifer Lopez + Hot dog
(probably my favorite.)
Now, I am not making fun here. I am breathing a sigh of relief for these teeny tiny people. And for myself. That Hostess snack looked really good...

And now for a little news on the Bachelor(ette) front.

Mr. Perfect, Jake, could quite possibly be the next seasons bachelor. Its not confirmed but here's the tidbit from Us Weekly.
I kinda don't that wrong? He was a little bit dull. I'll certainly watch if he's the main man, though.

Pregnancy Perk #3

Pregnancy Perk #3:
Finding utterly fantastic baby gear and drooling obsessively over it.

Look at this wonderful hanging bassinet from Knoppa.

Do you just love it?

via {luphia loves}

If I weren't so attached to the wicker bassinet I've used for my first two babies - and was used by my grandmother when mom was a baby - I would absolutely be making a case to get one of these into my house.
