I'm just wondering why in 5 years you'll be eligible? Good Luck honey. =)

Patty - You must be 30 years or older to have your paper work sent over to the Chinese government. It's one of China's regulations. (one of many!)

Lynda - We are not certain how it's going to work. I've been looking at foregin adoption agencies here in the states because I think that's how we will have to do it. It can take about 2-4 years from start to finish. At the end, we will travel to China and pick the baby up.
If we are already in China when we want to adopt (something tells me we wont be) then I have no idea how we'd go about adopting.

I would not be surprised if China had ceased doing foreign adoptions altogether in five years. The drastic slow-down of the past two years, and the push for domestic adoptions within China, coupled with the reduced numbers of babies being abandoned as China's affluence increases, just says to me that the writing is on the wall. This is good for China, good for birth parents, and good for the children, who get to stay with their birth families, culture, and heritage... but oh-so-hard on PAPs (prospective adoptive parents).

My heart goes out to anyone trying to adopt from China now - the Wait for referral is 25 months from Log In Date and is increasing rapidly - it's expected to reach 40-48 months before it starts to improve. There are other options, but if your heart is in China, it's so very hard to let go, as I can attest.

Blessings!!

BTW: Americans can adopt without difficulty while living in China - the process is actually a bit faster.

there is a couple from church here who adopted two kids from china while they lived in china. I think it was easier??? not sure...they would be good to talk to at some point about their experience if you ever wanted.

easy or hard God will answer prayers!

What a wonderful heart you have. I pray that your dream of a little girl from China becomes reality. Too bad for all the restrictions because it is obvious that people like you would be fabulous parents ...

We are blessed to have a little girl from China. You are welcome to visit our blog if you like.

Many blessings to you

5 years for our countdown as well! We want our youngest biological child to be of an appropriate traveling age before beginning the process. That was also one of DH and my deals: 3 children at most, and at least one had to be grown in our heart, not my body. China was our choice... ( Actually Malawai was our top pic but it is next to impossible to adopt form Malawai unless major strings are pulled, or you are a Malawain citizen.) ( do you read salsa in china?)
